The map is generally more tightly packed, leaving players with less room to move, and giving the zombies more entrances into the building. Defending specific areas of the map is a far more dynamic and chaotic affair, but the addition of electroshock defences at a couple of locations ensures that players can employ a tighter defence. The electroshock defences are turned on by hitting a switch which activates Pretty Blue Lights of Doom +3. A steady stream of electricity pulses vertically in select doorways near the switch, and any player or zombie caught in the beams will subsequently be zapped into oblivion. Verrückt definitely requires far more teamwork than Nacht der Untoten did, and you’ll need the help of your fellow players to watch your back and keep it free of zombie teeth. All of these factors make for a far more intense, exciting and addictive second outing in one of the most ingenious game modes ever tacked on to the end of a game. It’s got Call of Duty‘s trademark style and class, but it’s made far more awesome and wonderfully ridiculous by the addition of undead Germans. It’s great, and if you haven’t tried it, you should. It’s got all of us at the NAG office hooked on Nazi Zombies again, so much so that it’s highly likely that you’ll only receive your copy of the May issue of NAG in June…
However, on the bright side, it’s highly likely that we’ll soon have another zombie survival guide available in the magazine for your perusal.
Now that you’ve heard my thoughts on the new zombie map, here are a few words from some of the other NAG staffers to give you an idea of how our time with Verrückt has played out:
Lauren “Guardien” Das Neves – “Guys? Umm, guys?? Please don’t tell me you’ve activated the electroshock defenses? I’m not there yet!”
Michael “RedTide” James – “OMG! WTF!”
Chris “Savage” Savides – “Somebody plant some Betties behind me…”
Chris “Axl” Bistline – “Live together, die alone”
Geoff “GeometriX” Burrows – “It’s fine, I’ve got Betties there…”
Alex “R.A.V.E.N.” Jelagin – “BEHIND YOU!!!”
Regardt “Reej” van der Berg – “…Oh… So the electric fence CAN kill you?”
Treyarch has truly done a great job in their additions to the popular co-op mode. The zombies are more aggressive and move faster this time around. They’ve also got some fancy new animations that’ll either leave you laughing hysterically or freaking out at the terrifying threat you now face. New voice-overs have been added for the player characters, and the zombies are more “vocal” in their attempts to bite your face off, giving the proceedings some personality and flair. Seriously, if you haven’t already downloaded this map pack, do it now.
