It seems that the upcoming gore-fest, which was announced in May, has been delayed until an undisclosed date next year – which is hardly surprising considering the holiday season crunch that is about to hit us.

Anyway, for those who don’t know, Splatterhouse is a re-imagining of a classic 1988 action game by Namco. The game didn’t play that well, to be honest, but it contained shocking levels of blood, guts and gore for its time. The story revolves around Rick, a college student who finds a relic known as the Terror Mask, which gives him incredible strength and a fierce bloodlust which he uses to fight demons and monsters. It also makes him look not entirely unlike Jason from Friday the 13th.

Apparently the upcoming game will feature many of the trademarks of the original, like a plethora of improvised weapons and the ability to dismember and decapitate foes amid sprays of blood. But instead of the old health concept, Rick will be able to sustain massive damage – up to the point where his organs will be exposed – but will be able to regenerate himself somehow thanks to the power of the Terror Mask. Let’s hope this one turns out better than some other remake attempts.

Here we can see Rick regenerating his lost arm. A monster probably twisted it off.
