A short while ago, the Hokuto no Ken, better known to us as Fist of the North Star, was announced as a game for the PS3 and the Xbox 360 from developer Koei. If you’re familiar with Koei’s previous works, then you’ll be unsurprised to hear that it will play very much like their Dynasty Warriors series. There has been confirmation that the game will be released in the US, but so far, no confirmation for a PAL version has been made. That isn’t too much of a problem for PS3 owners, since the PS3 isn’t region-locked, but it’s a bit of a disappointment for PAL-owning 360 fans who might now be slavering at the thought of taking control of Kenshiro for a bit of skull-exploding fun. Let’s just hope that they don’t give it a mouthful name like Dynasty Warriors: Fist of the North Star for the western release like they did to Dynasty Warriors: Gundam.
Fist of the North Star is a popular old-school anime in Japan. The film anime feature film was released in the west by Manga Video, and it was probably one of the biggest contributors to the reputation anime bore back then for excessive violence. Kenshiro’s unique style of martial arts allows him to stand back and watch his enemies explode in a huge shower of blood after punching them. Funnily enough, it seems that the Japanese creators of the show thought that the human body contains far more blood that it should be able to hold, and that it sprays it out like a high pressure hose at the slightest injury. It’s amusing and it will probably be in the game.
