If there’s one line that game developers seem to be unwilling to cross, it’s the whole violence against children issue. Think about it, in games like Dead Rising and Resident Evil, where odd viral outbreaks occur to transform the population of entire towns into mindless killing machines, you never seen any child zombies. Why is that? Is there some kind of law against breeding in these places? Even those games where children are featured, they seem to miraculously avoid getting hurt or killed.

Well, all of that could be about to change. If gaming history has taught us anything, it’s that it takes just one developer with the balls to breach a serious taboo before all others follow suit. In this case, EA might be the one to do it with their upcoming action title, Dante’s Inferno. Just as in Dante Alighieri’s epic poem, unbaptised babies end up in some levels of Hell – part of the whole original sin concept or something – and they will naturally attack your character. OK, so maybe these babies do have blades for arms, making them more monstrous and removing them somewhat from the idea of real children – but still, the name of the achievement is pretty dodgy. Anyway, assuming this doesn’t get cut before the game’s release, it could be the first to breach an age-old videogame taboo.
