In a dramatic break from tradition, this news item isn’t just something I’ve sourced from the usual press outlets — it’s something I’ve actually dealt with. Just yesterday my friend in the UK got ahold of me on Yahoo and mentioned that she couldn’t play Assassin’s Creed 2 on her PS3 because of some “trophy error” or something. Confused at first, I ran through every technical solution I knew to try and help her out, but to no avail. A bit of research on the net revealed that this problem ran deeper than I had at first imagined.
A relatively new outbreak, it seems to be leap year date-related, and seems to only affect certain older models of the PS3 — preventing users from signing into PSN or playing any of their games with trophies. Yow, thank goodness I have a slim now. Anyway, apparently Sony is aware of the problem and working around the clock to come up with a solution.

If you see this, don't panic... Sony is fixing it as we speak.

Miktar DraconThis issue was resolved yesterday. By disabling and re-enabling the PS3′s internet connection, then syncing trophies, the calendar bug is fixed.
The issue was very serious, as it had the risk of invalidating trophies that were not yet synced with PSN. As a result, Sony started sending out free PSN game codes to every Japanese PS3 they could detect was an older model, and prone to the bug.
There is no word on if any other country will get the same apology.

Matthew ViceI tried that with my friend in the UK, but it didn’t seem to have any effect. She couldn’t get online at all with her PS3… although I don’t know if she’s tried since. Maybe it works now.
