Starcraft match-fixing in South Korea?

I guess any dedicated StarCraft player is well aware that the game is taken very seriously in Korea, so much so that its even become a viable betting sport for gamblers. Well a lot of stink has risen there lately over the issues of some high level players fixing their matches in cooperation with some dodgy gambling groups. Some players have been caught and even forced to retire from their StarCraft careers! Their StarCraft careers, I ask you? You mean that these people play StarCraft professionally? Wow man… just wow…

In Korea, players play StarCraft professionally. Let's see if StarCraft 2 can match that legacy.

“Wow man… just wow…” Why is this so unbelievable? Are other tournaments where you can win thousands of rands\dollars\etc in prizes and or prize money just as crazy? It’s awesome for gaming if it can be taken seriously as a professional “sport”.

Of course I knew it was huge… but still, the idea that players can play it professionally and have careers they can be forced out of by allegations of cheating. I don’t care what anyone says, that still strikes me as quite amazing, no matter how many times I hear it.
