It seems like Sony’s new policies about disallowing other operating systems to be installed on their newer machines (or on their older machines by way of firmware updates) are causing a few ripples – and not in the gaming industry. The US Air Force and some research groups who purchased bulk PS3s in order to use their cell-processors for cluster-based supercomputing are feeling the sting of this new mandate. Some groups are even filing lawsuits against Sony because, in layman’s terms, the purpose for which they purchased the machines in the first place has been altered without their consent. It’ll be interesting to see what they do about this.14_05 Image
