Oh, Robert. You do know how to keep us entertained. Speaking at an investor’s meeting, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick basically gave every other independent developer out there the finger while simultaneously taking a stab at mighty Microsoft and flying the Activision flag high.
“Bungie are a very unusual company. They’re probably the last remaining high quality independent developer,” said Kotick. “When they started the process of looking for a new partner, they’d been in business with Microsoft. They had a vision for a product they wanted to create that needed certain skills and capabilities – that Microsoft had some of. But as they started to go and look at the obvious candidates, they realised that no company other than Activision had the skills that they needed to be successful for the vision of that product.”
Seriously? It probably would have been easier to have plainly stated that “Bungie is the only independent developer capable of making us enough money to buy the moon”, rather than calling them the “last remaining high quality independent developer” out there. We know you were talking to investors and all, but come on. You may want to put down that Minecraft pickaxe and grab a Halo pistol instead guys, because Kotick has spoken. Thankfully Valve, The Behemoth, Jonathan Blow, Introversion and many other independent developers out there prove every day that this comment is the pinnacle of bulls**t.
