The Wii2/Project Café/Stream is now official. Nintendo has announced that they will be launching the successor to their Wii console in 2012. This news came via an official statement issued today (25 April) by Nintendo.

The official press release still doesn’t supply a name for the new console, but it does confirm that the unit will be unveiled at this year’s E3 on 07 June. The statement also mentions that there will be working demo units at the expo.

Kotaku has pointed out that the new Wii console has not been mentioned in Nintendo’s financial forecast that ends in March 2012. Therefore it is likely that the new console will be released after April 2012. We’ll know more in June once E3 kicks off.
