Eurogamer has a report (ie a rumour) suggesting that it is “strongly rumoured” that Mass Effect 3 will feature a four-player, co-op multiplayer component. This possible multiplayer addition will be similar to Horde mode in Gears of War 2, wherein players have to survive increasingly stronger waves of enemies.
According to the rumours, this multiplayer mode will not detract from the single-player campaign of the game – good news there. However, the thought of being able to take your Commander Shepard online to dispatch Geth, Collectors and other assorted space beasties has, I’ll admit, somewhat of an appeal especially when you get to be joined by three of your friends’ Shepards as well.
For now, however, take this as nothing more than rumour; nothing to get excited or irate about. Still, multiplayer is something BioWare is getting more and more involved in as a rep told Eurogamer at E3 last week when pushed for information on multiplayer in Mass Effect 3: “We haven’t talked at all about multiplayer in the Mass Effect franchise, but we’re exploring multiplayer in all of our games and all of our franchises”.
