Humanity will also, in all likelihood, be extinct by then, but EA has invested millions and millions of dollars in BioWare’s Star Wars MMO, so they’re praying you’ll play it well into the inevitable Apocalypse and subsequent collapse of human existence.

The Old Republic is coming out this year. When, exactly, is still anyone’s guess but EA has promised that the game will come out and has already started taking pre-orders. MMO and Star Wars fans have been itching to get their hands on the game, which will ship with 19 major worlds, according to the senior creative director James Ohlen.

Speaking at this year’s Comic Con, Ohlen said that EA and BioWare intend the MMO to last “for decades” and that as the years while away, they will be adding more and more worlds to that initial line-up of 19. Hit the jump for more time-based insanity and the game’s latest hype-inducing trailer.

It sounds as if The Old Republic is massive already. Each of the six character classes supposedly has around 200 hours of gameplay that excludes MMO staples like crafting and raiding. With 19 fully fledged worlds to explore, it seems the game’s ambitions are lofty already. According to Ohlen, we ain’t seen nothin’ yet:

“Well, I can say that we have 19 major worlds. Then we have an indeterminate number of minor worlds. And our goal, obviously this being an online game, that we’re hoping is going to last for decades, we’re going to be, obviously, adding more to the galaxy map as the game progresses. We want to add dozens of worlds. Hundreds of worlds eventually. In 2025, we’ll hopefully have 500 worlds.”

If I am still playing the same game after fourteen years, will somebody please book me into whatever rehab they have in 2025? I’ll probably try to resist, but tell future Miklós that past Miklós said I would probably do this and that I’ve given the intervening party the freedom to use any means necessary.

Here’s the latest trailer that shows off each of the MMO’s six classes. I’m not sure: the more I see of this game the more I’m convinced I don’t want anything to do with it. Maybe I’m just not that into MMORPGs or something.
