This weekend is rAge – the biggest gaming and technology expo in the country. Maybe you’ve heard of it? rAge is a NAG-run expo that gives attendees the chance to play the latest games, get their hands on upcoming titles, buy products from retailers at amazing prices and even get a chance to meet with a few real game developers – both local and international.

In addition, there will be a number of developers at the show, including Paul Crocker, lead narrative designer on Batman: Arkham City; Ubisoft’s transmedia development director Julien Cunny; Ghost Recon’s Pierre de Margerie; and local indie talent including Sven Bergström, Danny Day, Jonathan Hau-Yoon and Dave Russell.
Throughout the show, Telkom Do Gaming will be running their LAN championship, which will take place in the VIP section at the expo. Top local gamers will compete in Call of Duty 4, StarCraft II, FIFA 11 and Counter-Strike 1.6, to stand a chance to win their share of R160,000 worth of prizes.
NAG’s very own NAG Gaming League will see 24 clans compete in Call of Duty Black Ops for their share of R95,000 worth in prizes. You’ll be able to watch the finals of the Premiere Division live on the rAge stage on Sunday at 10:00.
Corex Alliance is sponsoring two Corsair Dream Machines valued at R30,000 each. On Sunday, the top 10 Black Ops and top 10 StarCraft II players will be entered into a competition to stand to win one of these monsters rigs. Be sure to watch the presentation at 13:10 on the rAge stage to see what’s in store for these lucky players.
Those interested in local game development should be sure to visit the Learn 3D stand, where they’ll be able to take part in the Home Grown competition to get their hands on some of the games made by Learn 3D’s students. Of course, there will also be the Game.Dev stand that will see presentations and hands-on experiences with other local developers.
rAge takes place at the Coca-Cola Dome at Northgate, corner Northumberland Road and Olievenhout Avenue, North Riding, Johannesburg. It runs from 10:00-18:00 on Friday the 30th of September; 09:00-18:00 on Saturday; and 10:00-16:00 on Sunday. Tickets can be purchased at the door at R50 per person per day, or R80 for a weekend pass. Family tickets cost just R160 for two adults and two children, and kids under 6 get in free.
