What do BioWare developers do once they finish the years of work required to produce Star Wars: The Old Republic? Well, three of them resigned and started their own indie development company. That company is called Stoic, and it’s made up of ex-BioWare guys Arnie Jorgensen, Alex Thomas and John Watson.

They’re making a game called The Banner Saga, which they describe as a “role-playing meets turn-based strategy, wrapped into an adventure mini-series about vikings.” Well okay then – count me in. The game’s art direction is heavily influenced by animated films, but the team says this is definitely a “mature game”. Do I also detect some visual references to Superbrothers: Swords and Sworcery EP in the background terrain?

Not much else has been revealed as yet, but there’s “Free Multiplayer Combat Coming Soon” so that’s a good thing, right? The game looks lovely so let’s hope the delicious art direction is complimented by great gameplay. You can check out more over on the official website here.
