Gaming franchise crossovers are nothing new. Quite often you’ll find Easter Egg homages to other games hidden inside a certain title. Case in point: Borderlands 2. Gearbox’s latest first-person-looter is LOADED with Easter Eggs, and features a particularly fantastic homage to Minecraft. Now it’s Ubisoft’s turn to show some indie love by developing a Far Cry 3 map and texture pack for Minecraft.
The pack will launch on 26 October and will, of course, be free. According to Ubisoft’s press release: “the pack allows you to explore and survive the Minecraft experience through the warped lens of Far Cry 3, with modifications to all aspects of the original game, including environments, weapons and tools. Discover key Far Cry 3 locations and characters, including Vaas, Jason and Citra, all completely redesigned in Minecraft style.”
There’s also promise of more Easter Eggs than you can possibly devour in one sitting. So, what do you think? Honest homage to an indie success story, or a thinly-veiled marketing tactic? Either way, it’s something rather quirky and fun, so perhaps gagging the cynicism is warranted?
