Dishonored DLC drops from a roof to assassinate your wallet

Have you played Dishonored yet? It’s utterly fantastic and well worth picking up if you’re at all interested in games like Thief, Half-Life 2 and Deus Ex. Honestly, it’s like all three of those games got spliced together during some diabolical science experiment. So, uh, yes you should play it already.

If you have already played through the game (possibly more than once because it’s totally conducive to multiple playthroughs) then the good news is that there’s DLC inbound. The first set of DLC is entitled Dunwall City Trials and it will bring a selection of ten trial areas for you to test your sneaky stabbing skills. You’ll have to fight off waves of enemies or complete point-to-point races.

This first piece of DLC will also include new Achievements or Trophies, as well as online leaderboards. It’s out this December for $4.99 or 400 MS Points. Bethesda has also revealed that there’s more story DLC in the works.

Coming in 2013, the second and third pack of DLC will be entirely story driven. There’s an explanation of the DLC on Bethesda’s blog, but there are some SPOILERS in it for those who haven’t finished the game yet, which includes me. Therefore I have miraculous managed to cut and paste Bethesda’s description without actually reading it – amazing, I know! You can read (presumably) all about the coming DLC below:

“Daud, the leader of a group of supernatural assassins known as ‘The Whalers’, will be the focus of the second add-on pack, scheduled for release in early Spring 2013. Make your way through new Dunwall locales and discover Daud’s own set of weapons, powers and gadgets in this story-driven campaign. How you play and the choices you make will impact the final outcome…”

Does it sound great? I have no idea what it says so hopefully I haven’t pasted a description for a porn film or something.

The challenge maps seem at odds with the style of game
Dishonored is reputed to be. But at least they’re adding something, and story
based DLC is coming too, because everywhere I’ve says that the game was on the
short side unless you planned on playing through it 3 or more times. It seems
like more games should deliver enough hours of entertainment to justify a $60
price tag, especially since I rarely play though a game more than once. With
Hitman Absolution on the horizon, I kind of expect that Dishonored is probably
going to be a ‘rental only’ game. These days I follow some advice I got from
one of my coworkers at DISH and I don’t buy a game until after I’ve rented it
and had a chance to log some hours on it. So now I use Blockbuster @Home; it’s
saved me a good deal of money in the past six-seven months. So Dishonored is
already in my Blockbuster @Home queue, and since I’m not already paying sixty
bucks on the game, I don’t mind occasionally buying some DLC for a rental that
    I really like.
