Official Wii U local pricing revealed

Local Nintendo distributor Core Gaming Systems has fired out a press release detailing the official pricing for the upcoming Wii U console. The system will be available in three different bundles when it launches in South Africa on 30 November 2012.

The Wii U Basic Pack will cost R3, 999.99 at retail. This version comes with an 8GB Wii U console and a Wii U GamePad in white. The Wii U Premium Pack comes with a 32GB black Wii U console, a Wii U GamePad and a copy of Nintendo Land for R4, 599.99 at retail. Finally, the Limited Edition ZombiU Wii U Premium Pack comes with a black 32GB Wii U console, a Wii U GamePad, a Pro Controller and a copy of Ubisoft’s ZombiU for R4, 999.99.

Perhaps a little higher than we’re sure many people were hoping for, but that’s the official word from Core. For comparative prices from other regions of the world, check out our Wii U Newsplosion piece from a few weeks ago.

Gah, Core’s ludicrous pricing again. I really wish more companies would take up the responsibility of importing stuff like consoles and computer hardware, the consumers really get hammered when one company gets to decide the distributor pricing.

    That’s insane. It’s R3039 in USD.

Sorry previous comment went wrong. Compared to Game.co.uk.
    £ 260.00 (R 3,619.20) and Core is charging R 3,999.00.
    The premium is £ 310.00 (R 4,315.20) and the RRP here is R 4,599.00

Yes, I was chatting to somebody else about this yesterday and they also pointed to the UK pricing. With the Rand currently what it is to the Pound, and our SA import taxes, local pricing is virtually identical to the UK’s.
