Valve is looking for Linux Steam Beta testers

So, its official – with Valve launching a sign-up process on their website called ”Valve Linux Steam Client Beta Application“, we’re probably about six months to under a year away from a proper, functioning Steam client and the Source engine’s compatibility with Linux operating systems. The sign-up process includes a survey and will alert users to when the beta begins. Valve is only looking for experienced Linux users at this point, but that shouldn’t stop anyone from dual-booting your chosen distro or even loading a client up in a virtual machine. While I expect the client will work on a number of distributions, its more likely that Valve will grab a default Debian image and integrate that with the Steam client for simplicity and for easier first-line support.

SIGN UP HERE, GUYS!

Aaaaand my entry is in. I’ll be dual-booting with Ubuntu 12.10, using a 64-bit install with my GPUs proprietary drivers for testing if I’m accepted.

I applied last night. will be testing using Ubuntu 12.10 (maybe also OpenSuse on my laptop) My pc specs are not high end but will hopefully give them a more ‘real world’ benchmark.

The more people that are interested, the more data they’ll have to get the client running smoothly ^__^ Good luck with the testing if you get in!
