Epic Mickey studio Junction Point has been closed

Since Monday there have been rumblings regarding the future of the Warren Spector led development studio, Junction Point. Since Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two went to market, the staff of Junction Point have been on paid leave. That’s never a good sign.

After much speculation, Tweets proclaiming the closure of the studio and subsequent deletion of Tweets proclaiming the closure of the studio, Disney Interactive has finally put the rumours to rest: Junction Point has been shut down for good.

“It was with much sadness that we informed our teams today of changes to our Games organization, which include the closure of Junction Point Studios. These changes are part of our ongoing effort to address the fast-evolving gaming platforms and marketplace and to align resources against our key priorities. We’re extremely grateful to Warren Spector and the Junction Point team for their creative contributions to Disney with Disney Epic Mickey and Disney Epic Mickey 2.”

This is sad. What a tremendous waste of talent. Epic Mickey wasn’t the dark side of Disney that I was hoping to see, but the idea was full of potential and the game was fun, if frustrating in a few areas (played it at Incredible Connection, since I don’t have a Wii). EM2 was not that great, though, don’t know what the hell happened with that one.
