PSA: TERA is now officially free-to-play

Back in early January it was announced that MMORPG TERA would be going free-to-play in a new version called TERA: Rising. That version is now live so you’re free to head on over to the En Masse website to create an account and download the game. A word of warning: clearly the game’s servers are being HAMMERED at the moment, because while we managed to download the new install client and create an account, we kept getting account authentication errors during the actual game download. Obviously the kinks are being ironed out so just be patient.

I tried it for a while, and I just couldn’t do it. The endless questgivers with ! above their heads, the pages and pages and pages of text for each quest, that mean very little other than “go kill X amount of thing”. The lack of sidekicking or level scaling, so it’s impossible to play with friends that are ahead of you, and they get nothing out of running around the newbie areas (other than stealing your XP and kills, since neither are shared – its first hit first serve).

The combat system itself is good, very weighty, and I like the skill-chain ideas. But pretty visuals and fun combat aside, TERA is a throwback to how NOT to do an MMO anymore.

The issue I had was…I had an en masse account but i forgot my password and when I contacted support they are not willing to assist because they do not support the game in our region.

As a matter of fact they wanted to block the za ip range completely because according to them accounts created in this region are just gold sellers and bots so I did not bother any further went back my mmo that wants my money.
