A month or so ago, I’d probably have ignored this altogether, but as it happens I recently (finally) got around to actually watching Firefly and it was grand. Not just because of Nathan Fillion, either, although maybe mostly because of Nathan Fillion. What? I like Nathan Fillion.
Anyway, after more than a decade of fans begging and pleading and offering up their important organs for a second series, Fox has decided to fund a video game adaptation. Okay, so it’s not a second series, but it’s something.
In development for iOS and Android devices by QMXi and Spark Plug Games, Firefly Online is a “a multi-user, social online role-playing game” that lets you cruise around the galaxy and do stuff – like the crew of the Serenity! It’ll be just like old times, although it doesn’t look like any of the original cast is onboard so maybe not quite.
There’s not much information out yet about how the game actually works, but you can keep up to date over on the official website.
In the meantime, though, there’s an announcement trailer featuring a spaceship and the same hideous Papyrus font used in the series. At least it’s authentic.
