For a while, F.E.A.R. ruled the roost in the NAG office when it came to multiplayer deathmatch games. We flirted with Prey‘s underrated MP for a while, and Quake 3 remains the reliable choice to this day (with Unreal Tournament a close second). But F.E.A.R. was one of a kind, with its emphasis on Call of Duty levels of weapon power. Much terror was inflicted with the M77 Remote Bomb, which gave me such nostalgia for the Det Packs from Half Life’s multiplayer.
The F.E.A.R. license went astray a while back, and now Korea’s Inplay Interactive is putting out F.E.A.R. Online – a free-to-play installment with online multiplayer and cooperative scenarios. You can sign up for the closed beta on the game’s official website.
Once we get in ourselves, we’ll let you know how it is.
