Yes, it seems Activision and Infinity Ward have no intention of slowing down their hype-machine for Call of Duty: Ghosts – especially with the game’s release date set for tomorrow.
Extinction mode, which switches out the zombies from previous titles for (presumably) more capable aliens, has had its playable classes revealed. And teamwork may be even more essential to survival in this mode than it was in zombies, as the developers explain “the most successful teams will consist of a variety of classes, using different abilities to best complement each other and adequately defend against the alien horde”.
There are four classes, namely Weapon Specialist, Tank, Engineer and the obligatory Medic. The Weapon Specialist gains a 20% bonus to bullet damage, which will apparently be quite useful against armoured assailants as well as swarms of weaker enemies. The Tank, as we’ve come to expect, will be the hardiest of the bunch, receiving a 25% health bonus. The Engineer class has the ability to provide armour to the team’s drill – which is used to destroy pesky alien hives. And lastly, the Medic of the team will have the ability to revive allies faster than other classes.
Every class also improves with each level gained. Weapon Specialists will become even more proficient, Tanks get even better at being the punching bags, Engineers become more efficient, and Medics gain better healing abilities as well as faster movement speed.
While the classes are fairly run of the mill, it’ll be interesting to see how they affect the gameplay of the new mode.
Call of Duty: Ghosts will be available for PC, Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii U tomorrow (i.e. the 5th of November).
