While the most recent entry into the series, Hitman: Absolution, didn’t exactly blow everyone away, Agent 47 is one of those characters who endures. Developer Io-Interactive has announced that they’re very busy working on the next game in the series.
Interestingly, Io chose to make the announcement via an open letter addressed to fans on the Hitman website. No big announcements, no “leaked” documentation, no flashy teaser trailers – just a simple open letter. I kind of like that, actually.
The next Hitman game will feature a “globetrotting Agent 47 at the prime of his career”. Handler Diana Burnwood and the ICA organisation make a return to aid 47’s tour of death. Io is working off the Glacier 2 engine, and they’re promising “non-liner level design” as well as “huge, checkpoint-free, sandbox levels”.
The Contracts mode will make a return, which means you’ll once again be able to craft your own community challenges to share with the rest of the world.
The game is heading to PC and “next-gen consoles”, which you really should be calling “current-gen” consoles but we’ll forgive you, Io, because you’re making us a new Hitman game.
