Mmm-mmm, but we sure do love ourselves some Hearthstone here at NAG. Out of all the collectible card games that have hit the scene, Hearthstone is one of the best, and its easy-to-learn-difficult-to-master ethos ensures once you start playing the game, you’re going to have a tough time getting away from it. As such, we have a saying here at NAG: “there’s no such thing as just one round of Hearthstone.”
The game is now in open beta, which means if you’re not already playing it, then, well, we might start to shun you. There are a number of features that still aren’t in the game, but that are on the cards (that’s right, I went there) like a spectator mode, or 2-vs-2 battles. Those are all coming, as is a mobile version of the game.
What we might see before all of that, however, is the addition of Adventure Mode and further expansions to the game. In Adventure Mode, you’ll be thrown into a player-versus-everything setup with new quests and between 10-20 new cards to unlock. There’ll be new stages as well. Blizzard is expecting Adventure Mode to launch alongside the iPad version of the game in the coming months.
In addition to a new game mode, Blizzard is looking to introduce paid-for, premium content. That content, however, will be along the lines of vanity items so as not to upset the game’s balance. You’ll be able to purchase new playing boards, new card backings and alternate hero portraits.
Full expansion packs are also planned, with Blizzard planning on introducing between 100-200 new cards with each expansion.
