Details are still a little sketchy at present, but a number of French outlets are reporting that developer Dontnod has filed for bankruptcy. The developer was formed by Oskar Guilbert, who previously produced for Ubisoft. Their debut game, Remember Me, caused quite a scene when it was unveiled at a Capcom media briefing at Gamescom 2012.
Remember Me didn’t set sales charts alight, and reviews were mediocre at best. That being said, there’s no denying the game had an interesting (if a little stunted) combat system and a fantastic art direction.
If the rumours turn out to be true and Dontnod has indeed filed for bankruptcy, then that’ll be a shame, especially considering Remember Me was one of very few new IPs to come out of 2013. Checking up on the developer’s website, there hasn’t been an update since August 2013. The company Twitter account has been dormant since September 2013. Not good signs.
