Last December, Ubisoft released the slave-themed “Freedom Cry” DLC for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. The DLC also formed part of the game’s Season Pass. Ubisoft looks to be trying something new with their DLC packages: “Freedom Cry” will be released as a standalone game, which means you’ll be able to pick up the lengthy chunk of gameplay even if you don’t own the original Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Freedom Cry will be released on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 on 18 February, which is right around the corner. It’ll come to PC a week later on the 25th of February. The downloadable standalone will cost $14.99. If you’re wondering, the ordinary DLC version cost $9.99, but an extra $5 probably isn’t the end of the world if you don’t own the game already, or (if like me) you played Black Flag on a previous generation console and you want to experience the game on newer hardware.
Interestingly, there’s not word of this standalone coming to Xbox 360 or Xbox One. You can find a trailer for the standalone version after the jump.
