Hasbro has announced a new game called Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark which will be released in June this year, roughly around the same time you can expect Michael Bay’s next (explosive) live-action film Transformers: Age of Extinction to hit cinemas. High Moon Studios, the developers from previous title Transformers: War for Cybertron, will not be involved with the game. Rather, it is being developed by studio Edge of Reality of Loadout fame and aims to merge the universe created in the previous Cybertron games with the universe created by Bay in his movies.
The game boasts 40 controllable characters – both Autobots and Decepticons – and looks set to massively increase upon the size of previous titles. In keeping with the latest addition to the film series, Dinobots will also be included in the game and one particularly interesting announced character is Grimlock the Tyrannosaurus rex.
The game will feature two single-player campaigns where players can align with the Autobots to defend Earth or with the Decepticons to attempt to destroy Earth. Multiplayer, on the other hand, will involve a horde-style game mode where up to four players can fight off waves of enemies and progress through different levels.
Interestingly, the Nintendo 3DS version of the game will be a strategy role-playing game as opposed to a third-person shooter. However, not much else about this separate game has been revealed.
Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark will be heading to Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, and PC in June 2014.
