Ubisoft reveals Assassin’s Creed Unity

Late last week, a few screenshots were leaked that showed off what was thought to be a new Assassin’s Creed set in France. Ubisoft is officially set to unveil the game to press this week, but thanks to the leaked images, they decided to release a teaser trailer to silence the press rumour mill.

The next entry into Ubisoft’s annual stabby series is called Assassin’s Creed Unity, and it is set in Paris during the French Revolution. Not much else is known at present, so we don’t know the name of our new assassin or how he fits into previous family trees.

Now for the great news: the game is NOT coming to last-gen platforms, which means no PlayStation 3 and no Xbox 360 releases. Unity will be released on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One sometime during the “holiday season”; no mention of the Wii U. Judging by the last two years, you can expect a worldwide release around the end of October. Hit the jump for the trailer.

The trailer was released alongside a rather tongue-in-cheek statement by Ubisoft:

Published on Mar 21, 2014 Qu’ils mangent de la brioche [Let them eat cake]! We have been working on the new Assassin’s Creed for more than three years and although we weren’t quite ready to show you our full vision for a next-gen only AC, it seems Abstergo are trying to force our hand! So here’s a true first look at in-game footage from Assassin’s Creed Unity. Stay tuned – we’ll have many more exciting details for you in the months ahead!

    dat graphics!

Ummm, yeah… don’t get your hopes up. We all know Ubisoft LOVES feeding us super-shiny graphics that look very different to the final product. Watch Dogs?

      • BinaryMind

The whole Watch Dogs thing might be just because they were showing it on PS4 or something. The PC version using nvidia PhysX might still look way better. We can only hope…

      • Alex Rowley

Well if the leak was really out of their hands and they were basically forced to reveal it in such an early state then you can’t really blame them.

Also At least Ubisoft shows people that there is indeed a downgrade in graphics before it is out unlike some other developers who like to make Dark games…

  • Alex Rowley

Probably the most predictable setting for an Assassins creed game. Also this is going to have the same complaint I made about the stetting of AC 4 where the settings are not nearly different enough from AC3. The technology is the same, the way people dress is the same and even the architecture will be very samey.

I wouldn’t really mind this if I didn’t know that Ubisoft loves to recycle shit from their previous games. So because the settings are the similar the gameplay mechanics are going to be similar once again. I do hope to be wrong and if that crowd density in the trailer is what the game will have then it’s already looking up but for now I’m cynical like hell towards it.
