Roll7’s excellent PlayStation Vita skating game, OlliOlli, is heading to the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. The game has been lauded as an essential purchase for anyone who owns a Vita, so it’s great news that the game’s market is about to be widened considerably.
The critical success that Roll7 has experienced is something that took the team off-guard: “there were numerous late-night emotional drinking sessions in central London as we essentially came to the realisation that we were a ‘proper’ studio with a hit game – it has still not properly sunk in for most of us!”
With the success of the Vita version, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe approached Roll7 to discuss the game’s transition to bigger platforms. Roll7 is currently working alongside Spanish development team BitWorks to bring the game to PS3 and PS4. There’s already a working version and apparently the game is doing just fine on a DualShock controller.
“It’s like our little OlliOlli grew up and got some balls!”
Roll7 continues to work towards patching the Vita version of OlliOlli in an attempt to eradicate a crash bug that’s affecting certain players. They’ll also be adding something new to the game alongside that patch.
There’s no concrete release date for the PS3 and PS4 versions other than “summer 2014”, which means winter for us here in South Africa.
