Oh boy. Productivity is about to take a serious knock, as Blizzard has announced that they’ve begun rolling out the iPad version for the digital crack cocaine game Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft. So far, only three countries have access to the game via their region’s App Stores: Australia, New Zealand and Canada. This staggered roll-out is very similar to what Electronic Arts recently did with Plants vs. Zombie s 2. This move basically allows developers to test the mobile version of the game’s infrastructure on a smaller player base before throwing the gates open to the world.
“The global iPad rollout for Hearthstone has begun, and pretty soon it’ll be available everywhere,” Blizzard’s founder and CEO Mike Morhaime said in a statement. “The game is a natural fit for tablets-we encourage everyone to check it out on their couch, in their backyard, in a coffee shop … or anywhere else they take their iPads.”
We’ll keep an eye on this (because we’re horribly, horribly addicted to this game and can’t wait until we can stop carting our desktop PCs around with us) and let you know when it becomes available on both the South African and the US App Stores.
