Its official now – Sony Worldwide Studios and Evolution Studios will be launching both the retail and Playstation Plus versions of Driveclub on 8 October 2014. The Playstation Plus version will be the base game given to PS Plus subscribers for free, with select tracks and cars missing and available as DLC packs on the Playstation Store. Evolution expects that most of their sales will come from PS Plus subscribers buying the car packs rather than getting the retail version, which would include all of this content in by default.
The announcement was made by Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida, who also revealed that Paul “Rushy” Rustchynsky, previously the lead developer for Motorstorm RC, would be helming Driveclub from now on. Its not known if Rushy only replaced someone today, or if he fills in as game director for Driveclub following the layoffs of three Evolution employees as part of Sony’s restructuring that occured about a month ago.
