PSA: rAge 2014 dates have changed

rage_2014_date_change

Planning on attending rAge this year? Were you in the throes of organising a super-geeky-awesome road trip to Johannesburg? Then pay attention – this is important!

The dates for rAge have changed; the show will be a week later than originally planned. That means you’ll be able to get your local nerd-fest on over the weekend of 10-12 October 2014. Why are we doing this? One very good reason: school holidays. By pushing rAge back a week, it means the show will fall during school holidays, which obviously means those attending the NAG LAN @ rAge don’t have to bunk school on the Friday. Remember, kids: stay in school!

Another good reason is that rAge is kind of a big deal and it attracts a really, really, ridiculously large amount of people on the Saturday and Sunday. By having the first day of the show (the Friday) fall during the holidays, it’ll balance out the crowds for the rest of the weekend. Hooray!

Too bad there are no public holidays. I’m still going to have to take off work for this, especially for the long drive from Cape Town :)

You’re driving up from CT for rAge? Now THAT is some geeky dedication. You get a cookie and a high-five.

Thanks. Me and a friend have been wanting to go since it began. We were in school back then but now we are out in the big bad world and have/are getting cars. So it’s time for a roadtrip!

Hopefully we’re not in over our heads…

Well it’s quite an experience and the lines are quite long sometimes so bring comfy shoes and some patience :)

          • BinaryMind

            Will do :D

Is the queueing the same for the lanners? They go in a different entrance, don’t they? I suppose they also queue?
(We want to get some NAG LAN tickets)

Lanners have their own entrance from the lan area so their is at most a minute of queuing for the lanners but the expo opens at the same time for the lanners as the other peeps

            Awesome. Thanks.

Now i just need to make sure I get a ticket on time. Need to get my 3d secure code sorted out. Almost no sites use it but i understand that Computicket does unfortunately.

Last year we stood for maybe 45mins or so getting in to the lan…those stairs though ><

I’m there each year, was in 2011 and 2012 the whole weekend there, and my feet were broken by the time it ended. Last year I was only there on Friday, had my brother and a co-worker there to help carry everything I could buy.
This year I’m going the whole weekend again, taking along some new people and buying more random stuff.

Ive been at rage every year since 2000. the expo of late has been dismal. always used to be nice stuff and better prices and main stage used to be more crowded with giveaways and competitions. in 2013 there were about 4-5 stands with IT colleges?? wtf gtfo its ment to be for gaming. bring the fun back.

      • FanieNel

Some of the colleges that was there did have some good game design courses available like with what Learn3D does, which is a great way to show that there are places you can learn about making games.
The giveaways and competitions have been a lot less lately and even the prices haven’t seen much improvement. Some games has actually cost more at rAge than at any other shop outside the expo.
I also noticed that some of the stalls at the expo had names on them, but had nothing to show in it.
My question is where are all those missing stuff?

  • Alex Rowley

I’m really hoping there are going to be some better sales at the rAge this year, last year I didn’t see much of anything that was uniquely priced which was a little disappointing in that aspect

Also way too make the event more convenient when I’m not in school anymore! lol

  • JAGMA

This just made it a lot more interesting for the LAN tickets hope this year the site won’t crash

  • Senator

In school holidays… might as well just make it a 4 day event no? :D
