Alien 1

Following rumours and loads of hype, South African director Neill Blomkamp has confirmed that he is indeed working on the next Alien movie. The rest of this news piece could be filled entirely with ecstatic fanboy squealing, but I’m keeping that contained until later. Hit the jump to admire its purity.

So far, all we have to go on is concept art and a quote from the man himself saying: “Um… So I think it’s officially my next film. #alien”. Variety‘s website also has light to shed, and according to “insiders” (grab your grain of salt now), the movie will be separate from the upcoming Prometheus 2. No further information has been shared yet, so we don’t know possible release windows or whether or not Alien/Aliens staple Sigourney Weaver is attached to the project. Given Blomkamp’s previous sci-fi works (District 9, Elysium, and the upcoming Chappie) it looks like the series will be in good hands. Here’s a trailer for Chappie, if you’re interested:

In other news, Blomkamp still hasn’t returned my emails about adapting my zombie story ideas into a film.
