At some point today, 09 April, publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment was poised to unveil their much-rumoured toys-to-life game. That reveal has just leaked online thanks to Reddit.
LEGO Dimensions sees the LEGO brand and Warner Bros. trying to muscle in on the game genre that began with Activision’s Skylanders. Disney’s own Disney Infinity has also gained massive market share, but we have a feeling that the LEGO brand will do just fine next to these two established IPs.
Much like Disney’s plethora of characters giving them an advantage, Warner Bros. and LEGO have an advantage thanks to the multitidue of licensing deals they already have in place. As a result, LEGO Dimensions sees characters from the Batman, Lord of the Rings, and The LEGO Movie all making an appearance. Plans for characters from DC (such as Wonder Woman) and even Back to the Future have also been revealed.
The premise of the game reads as follows:
“When a mysterious and powerful vortex suddenly appears in various LEGO® worlds, different characters from DC Comics™, Lord of the Rings™ and the LEGO® Movie are swept away. To save their friends, Batman™, Gandalf™ and Wyldstyle™ bravely jump into the vortex to rescue their friends and fight to save all of LEGO humanity.
Let your creativity be your guide as you build the LEGO Gateway to adventure, journeying through unexpected worlds and teaming-up with unlikely allies on the quest to defeat the evil Lord Vortech. Play with characters you never thought you could see in a LEGO game together, using vehicles and weapons you never thought possible. LEGO Bad Cop™ driving the DeLorean Time Machine; why not?! The Ninjago Masters of Spinjitsu fighting alongside Wonder Woman™…yes, please! Get ready to break the rules, because the only rule with LEGO Dimensions is that there are no rules.”
The Starter Pack comes with a copy of the game, a LEGO Toy Pad (like Skylanders’ Portal), some LEGO bricks for the Gateway, Minifigs of Batman, Gandalf and Wyldstyle, as well as the Batmobile.
According to the leak, the game is hitting current and last-gen consoles including the Wii U. We’ll update with more information once Warner Bros. makes their official reveal.
Warner Bros. has made the official announcements and released a reveal trailer for LEGO Dimensions.
