Satoru Iwata, Nintendo’s President since 2002, has passed away at the age of 55. The news was confirmed by Nintendo in a short statement that read:
Nintendo Co., Ltd. deeply regrets to announce that President Satoru Iwata passed away on July 11, 2015 due to a bile duct growth.
Iwata had been with the company since the 1980s and worked on a number of game titles before becoming Nintendo’s director, president and eventually CEO. In 2014 his deteriorating health forced him to miss E3 and undergo surgery that same year.
