The moment I placed figurines of Anakin and Ahsoka onto the Disney Infinity 3.0 Base I thought to myself, “Wait, their lightsabers don’t light up? That seems like a major oversight. Like, if Skylanders can have LightCore figurines, surely Disney Infinity‘s lightsabers should light up?”
I sulked for about a minute, and then the Star Wars theme tune played and the whole thing won me over anyway.
The good news is that Disney has clearly seen the errors of its way, and has revealed a new line-up of Disney Infinity 3.0 variant figurines. These ones have lightsabers that actually light up now! Hooray! Wait, hang on. All six of them are sold separately? And each of them is exclusive to a specific retailer in the USA? And they’re not replacing the existing versions? This is all starting to feel calculated…
Officially called Star Wars Light FX characters, variants of Yoda, Luke, Darth Vader, Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Kanan (from Star Wars Rebels) are all up for pre-order in the USA. They’re also being called “limited edition”. If one wanted to get all six of them you’d need to visit six different franchise stores. Yuck.
No word on whether we’re getting these variants in South Africa, and whether or not they’ll be exclusive to certain retailers like in the USA, but we’ll keep you posted.
