From what I’ve been told about last year’s Overwatch beta, Blizzard’s new team-based multiplayer FPS is incredibly fun and feels great in action. Yes, unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to actually play the thing, because my attention was needed elsewhere. Boo. Sadface. Etcetera.
I’m not too bothered though, because the game’s beta will return in February, so I’ll soon have my chance to see what all the fuss was about. And anyone who’s super-eager to return to the beta will be happy to know that there’ll be some fresh goodies awaiting them.
The beta was originally scheduled to happen this month, but Blizzard decided to push it back a bit. The reason for the short delay is that the team has decided to add a new game mode (and some extra maps to complement it) to the beta. This is how Jeff Kaplan, the game’s director, explains it:
“After looking through all of the feedback from last year, one of the things we noticed players consistently mentioning was their desire for more game modes in Overwatch, in addition to Point Capture and Payload. Without getting into specifics, we are working on a new game mode. And we’re very excited about it! And we have some great new maps to support it, too, but we need a little more time to get everything just right.”
Basically, the beta will be crammed with more Cool Stuff. Yay! It’s funny that it feels completely in keeping with Blizzard’s character for them to delay a beta to further polish the thing. Anyway, the point is that next month is Overwatch beta month, so prepare to scratch that itch. While you wait, here’s a trailer to get the excite-juices flowing.
