At first glance, Enter the Gungeon looks an awful lot like Nuclear ThroneBinding of Isaac and every other bullet-riddled roguelite dungeon crawler (or whatever they’re called) out there. And that’s because it is an awful lot like Nuclear ThroneBinding of Isaac and every other bullet-riddled roguelite dungeon crawler (or whatever they’re called) out there.

That said, there are two important factors that set it apart from the rest of the pack: it’s packed with a vast array of obscenely inventive weaponry, and it looks bat-shit crazy because of it.

The game’s now got a release date, and there’s a new trailer of it in action for you to watch.

Before you watch the footage, it’s important that you’re clear on just what I mean by “obscenely inventive weaponry”. You’ll find insane flamethrowers and ridiculous T-shirt cannons in the game. One weapon spews out face-melting rainbows while playing a happy tune. It’s full of lasers and explosions and weapons that create black holes. There’s a gun that creates puddles for sharks to swim around in, and those sharks do to your enemies what sharks do best. Just read that last one once more, take a moment to fondly remember Armed and Dangerous, and then watch this:

A gun that can kill the past? I’M IN! Here’s a description of the game, pulled from its website:

“Select a hero and battle your way to the bottom of the Gungeon by surviving a challenging and evolving series of floors filled with the dangerously adorable Gundead and fearsome Gungeon bosses armed to the teeth. Gather precious loot, discover hidden secrets, and chat with opportunistic merchants and shopkeepers to purchase powerful items to gain an edge.”

As you no doubt spotted in the trailer, there’ll be co-op play too. Enter the Gungeon is due out on April 5th for PC and PS4.
