Ah, Mafia. I remember your horrible racing mission like it was yesterday, you glorious bastard. I didn’t play your sequel because I was told it was disappointingly underwhelming, but I have so many fond memories of you that the thought of playing a new game bearing the Mafia logo makes my heart do a little dance. COME HERE YOU.
Ahem. Sorry about that. Just a bit of totally casual reminiscing. As you no doubt know if you’re a fan of the franchise, there’s a Mafia III in the works. It’s set to weave a tale of messy vengeance in an open-world environment that’s inspired by New Orleans. There’s a fresh trailer for the game, which I’ll embed below, and it’s accompanied by a release date.
Yowzer. All fire and fury that one. Even though it’s just a trailer, I already love the powerful voice acting and emotive characters. They’re so brilliantly convincing.
Here’s a quick breakdown of what you can expect: in Mafia III (which takes place in 1968), you play as Lincoln Clay, who tries to leave his crime-ridden past behind him when he returns home from the war in Vietnam. Things go pear-shaped when the Italian Mafia massacres the people closest to Lincoln, and so begins the game’s revenge-driven narrative. There’ll be driving, vicious melee combat, lots of shooting and a beautiful, era-authentic city to explore.
It’s set for release on October 7th 2016 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Please, let it be good. If it’s rubbish, I’ll sob uncontrollably for months.
