Video game movies are supposed to be terrible. It’s basically the rules. So, I’m not entirely sure what to think about this trailer for the otherwise inevitably supposed-to-be-terrible Assassin’s Creed movie. I expected a cringing catastrophe, obviously, but it actually looks kind of okay. Maybe even more than okay. Besides the Kanye West song, anyway. I guess that’s the studio’s way of restoring some equilibrium to the universe.
Assassin’s Creed the movie isn’t exactly an adaptation of any one of the games, and instead, tells a whole new story about this guy, Callum Lynch (played by Michael Fassbender), who must relive his previous existence as Aguilar the secret society stabber during the Spanish Inquisition.
The movie’s other stars include Marion Cottilard, Jeremy Irons, Michael K. Williams, and Brendon Gleeson, and is directed by Justin Kurzel. It’s out in December.
