Three ex-Lionhead developers have started up their own studio, and they’re launching a Kickstarter campaign to fund Fable Fortune, a free-to-play Fable card game for PC and Xbox One. Ooh, look at you, Chicken Kickers.
Chicken Kickstarters, more like.
According to a report over on IGN, the game was in development for 18 months already before Lionhead went tatty bye, and – assuming it makes its crowfund munnies – Flaming Fowl Studios expects the game to ship sometime next year. In the meantime, a beta is scheduled for October.
Much like Hearthstone‘s obvious WarCraft inspirations, Fable Fortune also features recognisable “characters, locations, and even in-jokes” from the original Fable series.
“We’re looking to build this game with the fans,” studio co-founder Mike West told IGN, “and then potentially morph and change things about the game over time. This is our starting position – we need to find out what people want from a CCG, and we’re ready to talk to them.”
“I think this is something that Fable fans are going to enjoy,” added his co-co-founder Craig Oman. “We’re definitely very keen to keep giving them new and interesting things. We have the ability to add new creatures and characters to this game and the world of Albion. I think we can certainly give them that Fable fix that they’ll be looking for.”
The Kickstarter goes live later today.
