When I played Cuphead, it was purely a boss-rush game. Think Shadow of the Colossus with early 1930s era cartoon animation, best played cooperatively with Chris Kemp. Now, Studio MDHR have released a trailer showing off the game’s run-‘n’-gun platformer elements.
Cuphead‘s looking strong. The platforming looks tight and responsive, and the utterly insane/terrifying character design persists across the minor-enemy spectrum. The music is fun and jazzy, although the sound effects are obviously still a work-in-progress. This should open up some more avenues of gameplay too. Considering that Cuphead has already shown off vehicular gameplay, we may see entire levels of flying or driving.
Cuphead is slated for launch sometime in 2016 for Steam and Xbox One.
