Because you should be. Imagine if Steven Spielberg adapted a classic Stephen King book into a TV show. I mean, it’s not actually directed by Steven Spielberg, and it’s not actually based on a book by Stephen King… but it could be. And that’s basically Stranger Things, a new, retro-nostalgic Netflix Original that launched last week. It’s also available on the local Netflix service, so no excuses.
I don’t want to spoil too much of the plot for those of you who haven’t watched it yet, but it’s about this one kid who goes missing, and this other kid who turns up at the same time, and this bunch of kids stuck in the middle of everything. There’s also a monster. And some sort of creepy government agency doing “science”. And a lot of vintage ’80s sneakers.
And Winona Ryder. I didn’t know she was even still alive.
It’s equal parts IT and E.T., and best watched from the comfortable safety of a blanket fort. Go binge.
