The Telkom Digital Gaming League (DGL) will be hosting its Dota 2 Masters tournament this weekend, 22 – 24 July 2016, at the Ster Kinekor head office cinema in Sandton, Johannesburg. The tournament will also be broadcast live on Telkom’s YouTube stream.
Teams from the eight Masters Multi-Gaming Organisations (MGOs) will be ganking it out for their share of the R100,000 prize pool.
The Dota 2 Masters tournament is the second such event in this year’s Masters League, and the winners will march to the final battle at the Masters main event at rAge in Joburg in October, with a prize pool of R1 million – the biggest ever in South African eSports history. Double whammy!
“In January we launched the DGL with the largest ever eSports prize pool in South African history. In March we held the first Masters tournament in Cape Town and now we are continuing the gaming momentum with an entirely new event,” said Telkom chief marketing officer Enzo Scarcella. “We are used to seeing eSports tournaments at conventions or in shopping malls. We are now opening the doors to a whole new audience by using Ster-Kinekor’s state of the art cinemas. It’s a natural fit for Telkom when we talk technology, streaming and eSports.”
The MGO teams include:
- Aperture Gaming
- Bravado Gaming
- CarboN eSports
- Damage Control
- Veneration E-Sports
- White Rabbit Gaming
