Pro Evolution Soccer 2017. It’s a thing, and people play it. PES has never been big on snagging extensive (and probably really, really expensive) licensing deals that’d allow them to utilise the official names and branding of all the major football leagues, teams and players on the planet. Instead, Konami employs cheeky pseudonyms and the like to help PES players imagine that they’re as close as they can get to being real-world footballing superstars every time they load up the game and step onto the virtual pitch.

If you find it nigh-impossible to overlook PES‘s lack of official licensing and can’t help having a Big Sad every time you’re forced to bear witness to those made-up league, team and player names, then here’s something that’ll turn your frown upside-down. PES World is a well-known PES community site, and they’ve begun rolling out custom add-on packages for PES 2017 that outfit the PS4 version of the game with a bunch of real-world football wotsits like the English Premier League, La Liga and more.

If you’re intrigued, links to the files you need to download and instructions on how to install them can be found below.

First up, here’s a list of where you should go to download the various add-on files:

For each of the above downloads, you’ll need to extract the WEPES folder from the .ZIP files and place it in the root of a USB drive. Plug said drive into your PS4, launch the game and then follow these steps:

  1. Enter edit mode
  2. Data management
  3. Import/export
  4. Import team
  5. Choose USB
  6. Select all files and press next
  7. Select both options and press OK
  8. Select the team you want to apply it to (it will automatically find the correct team anyway), and then watch the magic happen. Repeat for every team.

Note: This automatic process doesn’t apply to competition logos. These need to be imported using the “import images” function and applied to leagues/cups manually.

And that’s that. Enjoy your footing-to-ballers!
