I’m going to be completely straight with you. Other than knowing that Sunless Sea is a thing that exists, I know approximately bugger all else about it. According to a quick Google search hours of extensive research, Sunless Sea is a roguelike, RPG, naval adventure with a fantastic story and a ton of positive reviews. HOW HAVEN’T I PLAYED THIS YET!?

Before I head off to download the game, it might interest you to learn that the Sunless Sea‘s Zubmariner DLC is set for launch next month and that a sequel is currently in the works. The sequel will be called Sunless Skies, and it’ll hit Kickstarter sometime in February 2017. More info and a trailer below.

Firstly, let’s talk about that Zubmariner trailer. According to my aforementioned research, Sunless Sea saw you don the captain’s hat of a ship that travelled along the water’s surface (like most ships). With the launch of the DLC on 11 October, it seems players will be able to command a vessel that dives below the surface and into a dark, intimidating new underwater underzee world. Check it out.

Zubmariner‘s launch trailer wasn’t the only exciting thing to come courtesy of Failbetter Games this past weekend.

According to a new post on the developer’s website, the sequel to Sunless Sea will be called Sunless Skies, and you guessed it, will take players out of the water and into space. Or as the post explains: “As with Sunless Sea, it’ll be rich with stories. The Victorian Empire in space – the High Wilderness – a ‘blistering, wonderful night’ among the thrones and domains of the stars.” The post continues: “With the Empire being increasingly authoritarian, bohemians, revolutionaries and outcasts – like you – are trying to make a life for themselves on its fringes.” More info for the game can be found here.

As mentioned earlier, Sunless Skies will be headed to Kickstarter next year in February, and is expected to launch on PC, Mac, and Linux.
