So, it’s basically the same as the movie*? Yes, but also different, because it’s a new “artifact of unspeakable power” and a new “ruthless enemy”. Hey, this is a proper superhero game about superhero stuff. You probably wouldn’t want to play a game about Star-Lord shopping for toilet paper or doing his taxes or petting kittens. Okay, maybe the last one.
Anyway, US retailer GameStop has put up pre-order ads for Telltale’s new series with the first real synopsis of what’s what:
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series delivers a brand new story of the universe’s unlikeliest heroes, the rag-tag band of outlaws who go by the names Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot. In the wake of an epic battle, the Guardians discover an artifact of unspeakable power. Each of the Guardians has a reason to desire this relic, as does a ruthless enemy who is the last of her kind, and who will stop at nothing to tear it from their hands.
From Earth to the Milano to Knowhere and beyond, and set to the beat of awesome music, this five-part episodic series puts you in the rocket-powered boots of Star-Lord in an original Guardians adventure, told in the unique and award-winning Telltale style, where your decisions and actions will drive the path of the story you experience.
No official release date – or anything much else about it, really – has been confirmed for now, but according to a report over on WWG, Gamestop previously had it listed for launch on 25 April, one week before the next movie is out. The date has since been scrubbed, though.
*The comics too, I assume. No, I haven’t read the comics. I don’t read comics. FIGHT ME.
