“Good luck and great fortune” await you, according to a tease on Overwatch‘s Twitter stream, with a special Year of the Rooster event scheduled to start next week in celebration of the Chinese Spring Festival.

Traditionally, the Spring Festival – also the Chinese New Year or Lunar Festival – is a time to honour the gods and ancestors, and although regional customs vary from one place to the other, we can probably expect to see a lot more lanterns in the game and loot boxes replaced with red paper envelopes.

From 24 January, Overwatch players will be able to unlock at least two new custom character skins for Mei and D.Va, but if previous events are anything to go on, presumably a whole lot of other seasonal goodies too.

Blizzard is big on the Spring Festival, apparently, with World of Warcraft and Heroes of the Storm also observing the event each year.
