Respawn Entertainment has already announced the new Live Fire mode coming with the game’s next update, but over the weekend, the developer confirmed that a revamped version of the original game’s camping holiday Colony map is also in the works for Titanfall 2. And like every other content drop for the game, the map will be free when it launches. The squee is real, you guys.
According to the studio’s blog, Colony will be deployed with new premium Prime Titans and custom cosmetic stuff, plus a “large patch” including “bug fixes, balance tweaks, and new features” sometime in the coming months. In the meantime, though, game designer Griffin Dean explains exactly what’s what with the new Live Fire mode.
“Live Fire is a fast-paced round-based 6v6 pilot only elimination mode. Each round gives players only 60 seconds to eliminate the enemy team or take control of the neutral flag. The team that holds the neutral flag when the timer runs out wins the round regardless of how many players they’ve lost. Knowing how and when to pick up the flag is a core aspect of the mode’s meta,” he says.
“Live Fire was inspired by speedball matches in paintball. We wanted to capture the spirit of these lightning-fast competitive matches and give it a Titanfall twist. Live Fire, like speedball, is fundamentally about forward momentum. You have to advance against the enemy, attack aggressively without hesitation, and make split second decisions that can make or break your team’s victory.”
The mode is bundled with two maps exclusive to its playlist, with an emphasis on “controlled sight-lines, choke points, and flank routes”. That’s code for “super snipey”, I think.
