While AMD’s Ryzen R7 series of processors is launching a few days from now, many consumers will be waiting for the cheaper offerings from AMD’s stable, namely the six-core and quad-core variants in the R5 and R3 families. If you want one of those chips, you’ll have to wait a bit before they become available. AMD has promised the R5 family will launch in the second quarter of 2017, while the R3 family will launch in the second half of the year.

Given that AMD’s motherboard partners are making millions of motherboards for the R7 launch window, and that AMD is shipping just over a million R7 chips for this launch, I think it’s safe to say that yields are quite good, and that AMD is well on their way to taking back some of the market share they’ve lost in the last five years.
